Paul Wellstone’s children said at his memorial service that the “most important thing” was the election for his seat

Paul Wellstone's children expressed concern for his legacy at his memorial service

After Sen. Paul Wellstone (D-MN) died in a plane crash as he was running for re-election in 2002, a large memorial service was held at a Minneapolis arena that some criticized as overly partisan.

While it is true that Wellstone's surviving children expressed concerned for their father's legacy, at no point during the memorial service did any of them state that "the most important thing" was for former Vice President Walter Mondale, who replaced Wellstone as the candidate, to beat his opponent, Norm Coleman.
