Health care reform provides for euthanasia, "death panels"

The “death panels” lie has been applied to many provisions of health care reform

This is one of the most debunked falsehoods surrounding health care reform. PolitiFact named it its “Lie of the Year” for 2009, and included it among its “Whoppers of 2009.” wrote that this began as a misrepresentation of part of the health care bill -- eventually dropped before passage -- that “merely called for Medicare to pay for voluntary counseling sessions to help seniors make end-of-life care decisions, such as designating a health care proxy, choosing a hospice or writing a living will.” This false claim has been used to describe several other provisions of the health care law -- each of them having nothing to do with euthanasia.
